I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some of the best Asian bridal makeup artists in the UK. In fact, it makes my job as a photographer much easier! When the bride has a top makeup artist with excellent skill, I know they will look great in front of the camera!

From talking to many brides, I’ve discovered that their choice of makeup artist is one of the most important decisions for their wedding. In particular, the makeup artists I’ve worked with below have all been great on the wedding day. Furthermore, the looks they have produced have been stunning! Working with Suky has always been a great experience. In fact, I was lucky enough to spend a week working alongside Suky in Goa, India for a destination wedding. Patti Panue is one of the most sought after makeup artists. Not surprisingly, since she has 30 years experience! She is internationally acclaimed and her brides look amazing. Patti worked with my incredible bride Ikki on her wedding, as well as the stunning Sabrina.

Once you have a list of Asian bridal makeup artists you want to choose from, do a little research. Take a look at their social media handles and portfolios. What is their makeup style like? Most importantly, does it match with yours? Certain makeup artists have a particular style of makeup. Some tend to have a bolder signature look, while others like to keep it more soft or neutral. Considering what you want for your big day, compare your makeup artist’s style preferences with your own. It will be much safer if you’re both on the same page! 

Consider their product collection

Some makeup artists mention their products on their social media handles and online portfolios. If you’re personally visiting their salon, you might get to take a look at their collection directly. If you do, it’s much easier for you to see what kind of makeup they use. Is it high-end or more widely available, and which do you prefer? Does their collection look appealing to you? The answers to these questions will help you choose the artist you like best. 

Take a look at their offered services

Differentiate between different makeup artists based on what they are offering. Some offer to do hair as well, while others don’t. Certain makeup artists also entertain skincare services along with makeup. It can be useful if you can get more done at the same time.

Don’t forget about hygiene!

This one is probably the most overlooked point, but it is among the most important. Whether you are looking at an artist’s online portfolios, checking their reviews, or visiting their salon in person, take a good look at the cleanliness of the place. Do the brushes look clean? Is the environment neat and fresh? What do the makeup products look like? In essence, it will give you a much better idea of how careful the artist is about not putting germs on your face!

See what their personality is like

Are they friendly? Are they a professional? Do you like the way they communicate? In general you must be comfortable with your makeup artist. Likewise, if you two don’t get along, it will be much harder to work together on your wedding day. A good vibe between you will really help you have the best wedding day possible! Especially as you will be spending so much time (and money) with them!

Keep your budget in mind

Don’t forget to keep one eye on your purse. In fact, try to look for makeup artists that fit your budget in the first place. This way, you can find the best services and not worry about overspending. In brief, some makeup artists will be more expensive, considering how long they have been in the industry, or how well they have established themselves. Of course the most popular Asian bridal makeup artists won’t be cheap!

Ask a friend?

If a friend of yours is a makeup artist, give them some leverage and lean towards them. There are several reasons why you could do this. One, they are your friend so you will be comfortable with them. Two, they understand you better since they already know you and your style. Three, you will be able to communicate with them very frankly; tell them what you like and what you don’t, so everything can be precisely how you want it. Four, you will be helping a friend grow their business!
